Caprese Sandwich
Caprese is the traditional Italian combination of tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. Usually served as a salad, we've turned it into a caprese sandwich by serving it on crusty bread.
crusty baguettes, rolls, or focaccia bread
1/4 cup | olive oil |
1/3 cup | fresh basil leaves, chopped |
4 | ripe, fresh tomatoes |
8 ounces | mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced |
kalamata olives, sliced (optional) | |
salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste |
Cut bread in half. Drizzle each half with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Slice tomatoes and layer over the bread with the sliced mozarella cheese. If desired, add kalamata olives. Sprinkle basil over sandwiches.
